A Message from the President
January 8, 2022
Now that all the holidays are over and Mid-year, it is time to start recruiting for Girls State and the Oratorical Speech Contest.
ALA Colorado Girls State allows young women to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and attain an action based understanding of the governmental process, creating a lasting foundation for personal and professional success.
Girls State will be held at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado on Saturday June 4, 2022 through Thursday June 9, 2022.
The applications are online at girlsstate-alacolorado.com. The deadline for Junior and Senior Counselors is February 28, 2022 and the deadline for delegates is May 1, 2022.
The cost will be $265 per delegate.
The American Legion Oratorical Speech Contest will be held March 5, 2022 at the Goldenview Classical Academy in Golden, Colorado. The address for the Goldenview Classical Academy is 601 Corporate Circle, Golden, CO.
The guidelines are: Speaking subjects must be on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to our government, and be between 8-10 minutes.
A 3-5 minute speech on an assigned topic is also required.
High School students ages 20 and under may participate.
It’s time to start spreading the word about Girls State and the Oratorical contest.
The American Legion and Auxiliary State Convention will be held on June 16-19, 2022. Due to Hotel Elgante being unavailable the site for Convention will be announced at a later date.
Please note that Mid-Year Conference has been cancelled due to the Hotel Elgante closing down.
From Commander Tina Louisville 111
I hope each and every one of you is doing well. I have heard that a couple members had close calls but as of right now there is no word of anyone from Post 111 losing their home. But we all know that others were not so fortunate.
American Legion Post 111 will be closed until further notice. There is no heat and the City of Louisville is under a Boil Water Notice as of 7 pm December 30th and will be in effect until further notice.
If you or anyone else needs assistance, please let me know. We have been blessed with so many entities and individuals reaching out to give us their support. Please do not hesitate to reach out and ask. This is a time when we need to come together to help each other out.
Taken directly from APC's Facebook Page:
A Precious Child will be open next week Monday-Friday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM to any individuals or families affected by the fires for clothing and basic essential items. Fire victims may drop in to shop, all free of charge, during our open hours as it works for them. Please come to our facility at 7051 W. 118th Ave. (Unit 1) in Broomfield to check in with our team.
Donations are needed! We will be open for accepting donations of new hygiene items, new packs of underwear and socks, blankets, towels, coats and shoes. Donation Drop-Off will open Monday, January 3rd at 9:00AM.
There is a staging area at Flat Irons Mall where first responders are set up, including the military. I had water, juice and food to donate and drop it off there. I was told they are making sure the items get to those who need it most.
Thank you and again, please reach out if you need any assistance and we will get you the help you need.

Mid Year Canceled
January 7, 2022
As you may or may not have heard, the hotel that mid-year was to be held at has been sold and our contract and reservations were canceled. After a good effort in a very small time period to try to find another location, it just was not financially feasible. The Auxiliary will have a virtual DEC meeting on Saturday, January 22nd. More information will follow early next week.
Please pass this information on to all members and we hope everyone will attend the virtual meeting.

From District 4 President, Karen Boehler
The fire that decimated up to 1000 homes as well as some businesses was absolutely unprecedented. A number of you have reached out and wondered how our ALA can be of support. I’ve been with Mary Worsley, an ALA Unit 111 member in Louisville, who is in the middle of the tragedy. You will see toward the end of this email a message from Post Commander 111 Tina Schaffer. The needs are great, and the needs are urgent. While certainly not all is known at this time, there is some action we can take to support our Legion family members, as well as other victims of this tragedy.
I’m hopeful that one member of each of your units would take this on, and that we do so promptly. Needs for families that are now homeless going into this new year have many decisions to make, and besides that, most left their homes with only their clothes on their back. So here’s what we’re asking:
You dear sisters came up with nearly $2000 for relief for our ALA families in Louisiana. I am so proud of your giving and caring hearts. Little did I know I’d be reaching out again so soon, though this is involving our members, our neighbors here in District 4. It’s been hard to know how we can reach out in this unprecedented time, but this is a great start.
Please, please share with your units and posts and squadrons and see how generous we can be in gifting those so in need at the beginning of this new year. So I can keep track of all this, I’d ask that you send emails to both Mary Worsley (email@example.com) and myself (firstname.lastname@example.org). Feel free to call me at 970-215-6497 if you have any questions or suggestions.
Once you have items gathered, I’m hopeful that you could arrange with Mary to get items to her in Louisville or to me in Fort Collins. She will coordinate with A Precious Child and other agencies, if we can only get donations to her.
