The Department of Colorado was founded in 1919, as the Colorado State organization of the National American Legion Auxiliary which was also founded in 1919 by Congressional charter and is the world’s largest women's patriotic service organization.
In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security. |
In 2014, Colorado American Legion Auxiliary members reported volunteering 113.671 hours and donating $159,869.55 in dollars and in kind donations to support veterans, the active duty military, their families and our communities.

Why We Matter
The 2018 estimated value of one hour of volunteer service is $24.69, according to the Independent Sector, a coalition of charities, foundations, and corporations that publishes research important to the nonprofit sector. American Legion Auxiliary members have volunteered 8.9* million hours in 2017 for a collective value of service to our veterans, service members, and their families of more than $1.7 billion*. That’s quite a global impact, and a powerful number that accentuates who we are, what we do, and why we matter!
