Welcome to the American Legion Auxiliary's Colorado Girls State!
Dear Applicants to ALA Colorado Girls State,
My name is Kaylene Khosla and I am thrilled to serve as the Director for this year’s session of ALA Colorado Girls State. I cannot put into words how much this program has influenced and changed my life. As a delegate, I met young women from across the state that were kind, intelligent, driven, knowledgeable, and most impactfully, bold. I left the week knowing I had become informed about the governmental system, I had grown in confidence of public speaking, and I had joined a sisterhood of hundreds of women who have the shared, transformative experience of ALA CO Girls State. I have returned as a staff member every year since and each time I leave feeling more inspired and confident in the promise of the younger generations than I did before.
Though the program is designed as an educational experience where you will learn about democracy, parliamentary procedure, civic engagement, patriotism, and so forth, there are also a few lighthearted traditions that come along with it. Each year, the program director chooses a theme and a song to accompany it, and these two things are woven into different aspects of the program. While I am saving the song reveal for when we all meet each other for the first time in person, what I can tell you is our theme: Be Bold. As you leave high school and transition into adulthood, there will be many moments in which you are faced with challenging situations. It is my sincerest hope that after attending this program, you will leave with the skills, knowledge, and most importantly, the confidence, to be bold and stand up for what you believe in in these various instances.
We are so excited to continue the tradition of ALACGS with a new delegation! As you consider your future endeavors, including your summer activities, I hope that you will keep this transformative program at the forefront of your mind. As the current public health situation stands, we plan to have the weeklong program in person, with appropriate health protocols being followed. If this changes, however, we will update the website and inform all applicants. It is a joy and honor to coordinate this program and share it with each new generation of young women. I look forward to meeting each of you. In the meantime, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.
Sincerely,
Kaylene Khosla
